i hate 7b21.. massive install failure

Well... maybe not hate, because about two thirds of the way through my installation it failed miserably, leaving me with a half complete system, that wouldn't boot at all, even into single user mode, so basically I'm wondering if anybody else has had this problem. G4 dual 450 with a damn lot of RAM, etc, i'm pretty sure it's not a system configuration issue. (I apologize for any bad spelling, etc, caused by EXTREME frustration)

what about trying to update this halfly-installed system?

and: of course you still have a jaguar partition to boot from or a backup in order to restore your jaguar installation, right?

(i'm sorry, but this *IS* beta software we're talking about.)
 
How many times did you try installing? Maybe you need to try again.

Can you install onto your iBook? If so, then you've got a conflict on the G4. If not, you've got a bad install CD.
 
Well the iBook is not something I can try to install on, because it actually belongs to my parents. I realize it is beta software but to my knowledge no-one else has had such large problems. I attempted to install twice, but maybe i'll give it another shot now. Admittedly I didn't get the CD directly from Apple, but I know other people who installed from this image have not had problems..

7B28 screwed up my system when updating from 7B21, leaving me with a blue screen (:D) before the login window appeared. So I solved it the microsoft way - formatting and reinstalling :p
 
Fragger: Are you saying you got an illegitimate copy of Panther? That could be your problem right there, if so. Did you check the CD for scratches, shmootz, copy protection?

Fryke: You can't update an incomplete system. Usually, an install won't install things exactly in the order it says, even if it says it's installing this and this and whatever, and after that there's optimization and whatnot to be done.
 
The CD is fine, I have verified that... so i suppose I'll just take another few cracks at it...
