Hi, All,
I have been trying very hard to search on the thread, and the closest one I can find is exactly the opposite..... Anyway, my problem is, I have a PC laptop and I want to use the existing Mac (OS10.4) as a wired router to get on the internet. Here are what I have:
Mac--OS10.4, window file shareing is on, administrator login
PC--XP
I have tried an Asante USB-Ethernet adaptor hooked to a cross-cable. The light was blinking, PC said there is a local-network hooked, but with "limited or no connectivity". I guess this means that signal was in, but unable to really use it.
Tried to set up network ffrom PC side, unable to find that Mac computer, unable to see any network from the PC side. Mac seems to recognize that network card as a USB-ETHERNET.

Anything I can do??? Help!!!

Thank you very much and HAPPY NEW YEAR.

You need to turn on Internet Sharing on the Mac. You'll find this in System Preferences --> Sharing --> "Internet" tab. Share the connection from the Mac's built-in ethernet to the USB-Ethernet and you should be right to go.

well, this is the closest thing i've found to my problem, but doesn't help me. i have a g4 tower with internet from a router going to builtin enet. i added an old asanteFAST 10/100 card i had to the mac, and turned on internet sharing. also turned on web and windows sharing like the installed help says to do. but my windows pc still only has limited connectibity, no internet. what else do i need to do to get this to work. i lost my hub (burned up), all the router ports are full and need both computer on the web. how do i set up the pci enet card in my mac and set up the pc to surf?

Each computer needs at least one connection. That is an irreducible minimum. If your Mac and PC both have wireless, then you may use your Mac as a wireless router. If you don't have wireless, then you need Ethernet ports. Get a larger hub, switch, or router.

like i said, my mac has 2 enet ports, and i'm trying to share the internet with my win pc on the 2nd port. and no matter what i did on the mac, the win pc never did see it.
