Since upgrading to Lion (Currently running 10.7.2) I have no sound output from my computer. I have a late 2006 15" MBP.

When I open Audio MIDI Setup, this is what I get

I know its not a bad sound card because my start up chime works.

Thanks for your help

I thought that was fixed by 10.7.2 already (at least for input sound not being recognized).

Reset PRAM - that might be able to solve it for you. Hold Apple-Alt-P-R down at boot (more about PRAM and what is stored in it and what the reseting does is in the link)

Apparently it wasn't. I already tried resetting the PRAM, still having the same problem. I tried booting into safe mode, "killall coreaudiod" in terminal, resetting the SMC. Garageband doesn't open either. says driver was not found

If you look into the Jack where your headphones or external speakers plug in, do you see a RED Light?

Try a minute tinkle of WD-40 onto the headphone jack and then insert and pullout the jack several times, followed by gently inserting and removing the audio input jack a few times. At least until the sound is returned to normal and red light ceases to glow from the audio output jack.

I believe this is a "mechanical issue, not a software one".

Did you recently install something?
