I think I've figured the problem with Palm Desktop

Don't Tread on Me!
Awhile back I asked for help with an issue I was having with the new Palm Desktop. It installed fine but would not allow me to create a User profile. I was alaso having a problem with the IE 5.1.4 update. No matter how many times I installed the update, everytime I booted back up I was informed that I still needed the update. I also could not get Windows Media Player to install.

So I started to think about this for awhile, since my question obviously also stumped the forum. Then I decided to try disabling my fstab and rebooting. Doing this allowed me to boot into the bare minimum backup User that is normally hidden on my directory. This also caused an empty Applications directory to be created since my actual /Applications directory was located on a different volume. I was then able to install the Palm Desktop and create a user profile for it. I was also able to install the Windows Media player. I then copied those apps to my Applications volume that I would use when I re-enabled my fstab. I also copied the necessary directories from the /Users directory to my Users volume for Palm.

I then restored my fstab file to /etc and re-booted. Everything booted fine and I now have working palm desktop and media player. Long story short, my system is setup so that my Applications and Users directories are on different Volumes other than /. I then use an fstab to load these volumes in /Applications and /Users. This has somehow caused some third party software not to install correctly. Anyone know of another fix, or is this the only way to fix the install issues?

Thanks.:)
