GREAT NEWS! For all you guys out there who have had problems with your ibook battery not holding charge, after going thru the net looking for a way to rebuild my battery, I have finally rebuilt my ibook 500 dual usb battery, with thanks to http://www.farstand.com/cgi-bin/pcg-c1/Forum.exe?0148 I have gotten enough info and decided to proceed with the battery rebuild.

First off, the ibook 500 battery uses 6 Panasonic 18650A Lithium Ion Cells ( I think they are supposed to come out with a newer one that holds 2200mah) that holds 2000mah, the batteries are connected in a such a way that they are in series producing 4000mah of 10.8 volts, the most important thing in this rebuild is the orientation of each cells since the battery pack is so cramped that if you don’t weld the batts the way they should be you’ll have a hard time closing the battery pack case after.

After you have successfully returned the pack the first thing you should do is drain the remaining charge from the new batteries so that the green leds on the pack would be calibrated to your new batteries’ charge, from my experience what happened was that the internal circuit in the battery pack, thought that the batteries were fully drained, but in fact they were holding some charge, so much so that when I tried charging them the first time, my ibook would charge the batts for only 7 minutes and I can only use the ibook on batteries for only 7 minutes also.

As I am writing this I have fully drained discharge and recharged my newly rebuilt battery pack, with xbattery saying I have a capacity of 3.582mah not bad for $60 and 4 hours of work I’d say. Hopefully I can get the full capacity of 4mah, but I think that’s hoping for too much :- )

Good luck with other battery rebuilders out there, it sure beats paying $130 for a new battery.

By the way got my batteries from sabahoceanic.com had them mail it to me here in manila.

PS

Running OS 10.2 on an overclocked ibook 500(now 600mhz).

Obviously, this is for those who are not afraid of opening the battery pack. Thanks for the info. :)
