My iBook G3 suffered a video failure back in November. I thought it was the video cable and just got around to installing a used one from eBay a few days ago. Didn't work, the screen still jittered and the computer still locked up. However, I could put my elbow on the airport card and it started fine.
Tonight I wasn't nice like I had been taking it apart before. The trackpad doesn't work (I think the wire can't quite reach the motherboard), a rubber protector for the video cable is hanging out part of the back, I had 5 extra screws when I finished, but the computer works now!
2mm thick, 2"x2" metal shim with one double sided sticky square to hold it in place. I put it between the video chip and the lower case. So far, so good. I just want it to ride me through until Leopard comes out so I can buy a Mini.
