Ibook G3

I bought a refurbished ibook G3 from DV warehouse not too long ago. It was fine at first, then i began having problems. It has Mac 10.4.11 installed, and I added a huge memory chip so now it has 600-700 in memory (can't remember exactly) But basically it came without enough memory to even support the operating system, much less anything I downloaded, so I upgraded the memory, but it didn't help.. It is freezing constantly. Every once in a while, it is able to run for a while, but typically it freezes within seconds or minutes of being on. Then sometimes when I go to turn it on, the screen is completely black. I can hear it loading and everything, but the screen is black, so I have to force quit it, and restart. I had called DV Warehouse, and they informed that I must have downloaded something that did not agree with it, and that I have to purchase the disc, and restore it. Does that sound accurate? They told me it would be like ten dollars on ebay, but all the ones I am finding for full install are 50 or more. I just imported my itunes library onto it with my backup discs very painstakingly because I had to keep force quitting, and so I am afraid that I may have to do it again if I buy a new disc. Can you run itunes on 10.4? Because if so, maybe that would be cheaper? Any suggestions??? Oh, and I payed 199$ for it, so I really don't want to have to replace it...And I also just noticed that the power light is also out when the screen is black, but I can definately hear it loading. I have poted this question before, I just wanted more feedback.

It can run 10.4 but with a G3 processor it will not be the fastest.

Check out if the serial and model would match this range
http://www.apple.com/support/ibook/faq/ - even though the program has ended, there is a chance that you could be affected by it (in which case it isn't a bad idea to check if you can get an extension to that REA). Constant freezing on those models of iBooks is one of the potential symptoms.
