Hi Everyone - have used this forum to browse before, but, unfortunately, I now have to register, as I need help!

I have an ibook G4 (14") 933

all as standard except an additional 256meg of ram installed. No peripherals attached.

Computer started to freeze quite badly a few days ago, always within 5 minutes of starting.

This has progressively gotten worse, to the extent that it doesen't start at all most times now (with varying results - someties a freeze mid start, sometimes a blue screen, sometimes a black screen, and sometimes a very pschyadelic tie dye / burning film effect.

Tried resetting PRAM (no difference)
Reset Power manager
Tried Re-installing system software (kept crashing and freezing, mainly on disc 2)
Tried running disc utilities, and repair / verify from CD start - still crashing
Tried hardware test started from CD - full test would not complete without freezing - short test did complete - resulting in the following error code...

Thought this was a RAM error, so removed the additional RAM fitted, and tried starting again, with all the same problems.

Sometimes it will start from CD, and graphically is fine, but sometimes, even starting from CD, produces the same results as above!

Would I be right in thinking it's the RAM hard wired into the logic board?
If so, am I about to be fleeced for a fortune, or is there any chance apple will fix it for free?

Cheers for anyones help, or even advice if there's anything I can do!

post/0/2048 dimm1/j31 is a Ram error.
Make sure it's fully seated.

Otherwise you have bad memory or bad slot on the Logic Board.

Fully Seated?

What's that?

Tried removing the additional memory, and the same thing happened with it out....
