I just got an ipod and about a week after i got it it stopped working half the time i plugged it in. At the same time my combo drive stopped reading anything but the mac ibook software, and cds that used to work in the drive wont anymore. My usb floppy drive stopped working also. apple support said i needed to take it to a store 2 hours from my house to see if they need to ship it to them to be repaired.
I think it might have stopped working around the same time i updated my ipod.
The cd burner also wont work and if i try to put files on a cd it says "error 53687028". Also if this has any relevance i tried to download some firmware update adn it said "firmware mounting failed".
The ibook is only about a month old and it hasnt had any other problems.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Try booting off of a CD, put in the first install CD and holding C while booting it up.

If that works, wait for the installer to load, click on the apple menu and select disk utility, once it opens select your disk and click repair. If it finds problems but cant fix all of them try running it again. Then repair the permissions.

I tried that, and i also tried reseting the power or somthing like that (it reset the clock). Could it possibly fix it if i just cleared the computer?

yes it does boot off that cd (the screen to select language comes up), but that is the only cd i know of that will work.
