iBook G4 tilting problem

First off, thank you so much for this website!

Okay. I use my G4 iBook while I'm in my zero-gravity recliner, so most of the time the keyboard is in my lap at about a 45 degree angle.

About a week ago, when I first turned it on a couple of times the fan came on for a second or two, then everything went back to normal. Then yesterday, abruptly, right in the middle of working, I got the spinning beachball and it wouldn't go away. I could hear the hard drive just sort of going "click click click." I eventually had to turn it off.

So today I finally figured something out, as weird as it sounds: when the computer is level, or even tilted backwards, it works okay, but as soon as I tilt it forward it starts grinding again. I used it for about an hour tonight on a level surface, but every so often I'd have to tilt it backward for a few seconds to get it to continue.

I feel like I'm using an Etch-a-Sketch.

What should I do? Has something actually come loose in my computer? (I can't think of any other explanation.)

Help?

Endless thanks,

-- Dan
