iBook sleeping question...

Hi-
So, I've hooked my ibook up to my 17" lcd monitor. I have very little desk space and want to keep the iBook CLOSED without having it go to sleep, so I can use it with the LCD monitor but not have it take up as much desk space. Is there a way to set the ibook not to sleep when I close it?
THanks
Mark

Dear All,

What you want is know as the 'Closed Lid' method this is how it's done.

1. Shut down your iBook.

2. Make sure the iBook has a Power supply and hook up your monitor.

3. You will of couse need a external keyboard and mouse as the lid will be closed. Hook these up.

4. Once you have all your 'bit's' (can't spell perphi... whatever?) are connected, open your lid, hit the power button, wait for the StartUp chime and then close the lid.

5. The external monitor show kick in.

Extra Information:

There is a known bug in MacOS X.1.3 - X.1.5 that this method might not work.
Upgrade to X.2 to correct this, or degrade to MacOS X.1.2.

Enjoy.

Awesome. I'm using Jag so should have NO problem. MUCH appreciated mi amigo!!

man, you have to restart the ibook to do that? that's kind of a pain, isn't it?

I'll mention this with the caveat that It's been awhile since I read the information. . .

I thought I read that there may be some heat issues with running iBooks with the cover closed and Apple does not recommend it.

Does this ring a bell with anyone?
