ibook vs. macbook question and security

Hope the "Hardware and Periphs" is the right place for this. My iBOOK (2002) has been great. Replaced the harddrive once though, had keyboard issues, display problems, etc. and the apple pro plan was a charm. However, it's on it's last legs I fear (and I'm no longer covered). But I got my money's worth.

MacMall is having a sale! I'm torn between the ibook (M9848LL/A) and macbook (MA255LL/A).
Macbook is only $100 more. Macbook has a 667bus vs. the ibook's 142 sys bus. The Macbook processor is 2gig vs. the ibook's 512k (Is that right)? Both come with 512mb DRAM. The speed of the superdrive is 4x in the Macbook vs. 8x in the ibook (Both write/read etc. but I have a 16X external so that doesn't really matter in a pinch).

So I think I've talked myself into the MacBook... (especially if I keep it teathered most of the time - battery life isn't an issue, nor is "heating up" since it's on a stand) to be the best, fastest, etc.

My question? Is there a problem with the Intel PC vs. the Power PC in regards to security? Are there more issues now with worrying about hackers? Can I safely continue to just run Apple OS (Tiger comes with either) and not worry too much about hacking....like I have in the past....
Or....
Is this a false sense of security anyway. Should we be running some sort of third party software?

May I follow up your question with a question? I looked that the MacMall prices for the Mac Book Pro 2.16 and they seem comparable to Apple's Educational discount. Have you or anyone brought from MacMall before? Any problems with this company? Thanks!

I've bought three Macs from MacMall among other things. Never had a problem with them.

I've bought two computers for my studio from MacMall. No problems; they've been around for a while.

By the way, MacBooks are always going to be a better choice than an iBook.

There might be security issues with the iBook much later, as it becomes unable to run the latest. Still, there's no issues now, even with old macs, so that's not really an issue.

Well, that's assuming that you're still running OS X on it, but I digress. :)
