iBook...

Hey!? i have more "?'s" also, but what i'd love 2 know, is there a Floppy Drive available, for the iBook... which i can plug in, @ free will?!
its just that, when i am using my iBook, and wish 2 transfer data 2 a machine with no NIC... i am Buggered!

also... files, put on Floppy disc... Are they Compatible, with a PC!? as in say i put Flash files, from Mac, and wanted 2 put the floppy in the PC, and carry on editing the Flash files on my PC, is this Possible?! i know the files work thru a Network, but i am not so sure if Mac's have a Different File System or something, on a formatted Floppy disc! ?

any ideas! ?

thanks!

NeYo

BTW... i am loving it!!! :D

Floppy, yes and compatible with 1.44 MB disks. I think that they are not compatible with the 720 KB disk(I am using). Only the superdrive(ls120) for mac maybe compatible with the 720 KB. floppy.

can read and write and format in pc and mac format
pc format makes no difference on Apple
mscopyprotected pcfloppy can not be used on mac (office windows)

If not, I think Teac and iOmega (makers of zip) have them. They're a bit pricey though.
There are a few out there.

If I was you, I wouldn buy one. They are too expensive for what they can do. I have a different advice: USB sticks! Maybe you know them. Basically, it's like an USB dongle, but with around 20 or 50 MB of space. They don't cost that much and are so small that you can wear them on your keychain! Just plug them into an USB port and they mount as a removable media!

Here's what I did when I got my iBook. Go onto eBay and find yourself an Imation Super Disk USB drive for Mac. It'll run ya about $50 I'm guessing, and it will read floppy disks and SuperDisks, which are the same size as floppy's but hold 120 mb. It's a must-have if you're going into 'higher education' which I would guess by the you type .. you're too young for college.

But anyhoo, this drive works great w/o any drivers and looks 'Mac-ish' as well. In my sig, click where it says 'iBook' and you'll see the drive in that stack to the left, it's white/clear.

Thanks Guys! Much Appreciated...! i must remember... One thing @ a time... and RAM is essential!!
but hey... i need some rewritable removable format, which can connect to most windows PC's and these are great Ideas!

thanks!

We all know that you owns a PC and that you want own a mac. Maybe a cheap imac with external usbfloppy can make you happy. So you can use your imac for www.macosx.com and write all the information you need to your hd. And if you need some of this information you can take it out of the computer and take it with you. If you need large files that aren't made for your mac than you can attach your pc to the internet.

you should get one of those nifty new USB or FireWire Flash drives, instead of wasting your time with slow, small, and crappy floppies!! I've been wanting one of those since they were introduced:D

Yea, you got it. They are basicly mini flash cards with a USB or FireWire interface. They come up to 512 megs!! I want one bad!

There is also a cheaper sollution, use some space on the web if there is a way to have the permission. If someone has information on this, please continue with this threat.

Go to the iTools site and set up an account. Your iDisk is accessable from PCs. Right-click on My Computer and select Map network drive (I think that's right, been a while). Enter http://idisk.mac.com/membername (where membername is your iTools member name). Use your iTools member name and password for authentication.
If you're on a dialup connection this can be slow, but it's still the cheapest solution. (Plus you get a cool @mac.com email addy!) I can't remember (correct me if I'm wrong) but isn't the iDisk 20MB? This would definitely be the cheapest route to go.
Hell, if your Mac and PC are networked together you can connect to your Widows shares using the smb:// protocol in the Go-->Connect to Server dialog. Can't remember the format that you use right now, but I'm sure a quick search would give you what you're looking for.

EDIT- nevermind. Just re-read the first post "Second PC with no NIC", D'OH!

Nice, I use floppy for sharing information between computers. There is an alternative.
