I'm planning to buy an iBook or a Powerbook in a couple of months (probably around octobre somewhere ... Any idea when upgrades on these models will be made availible?

Anywhere between these dates the powerbooks WILL be upgraded directly from Apple:

April 30th-May 30th

I think that's right.

Macworld NY is always in July, WWDC is always in May, MacWorld Tokyo is always in December (I think), and Macworld San Francisco is always in January. The dates themselves change around, but usually WWDC is the first week of May, MacWorld NY is the third week of July, Macworld Tokyo is the second week of December (I think), and Macworld San Fransisco is always the first week of the new year!
