IE 6 / Windows XP incompatible?

I (unfortunately) have to use a Windows machine at work, though I use a Mac at home. I have found that ever since the facelift, I have problems with this site when using IE 6.0.2800 under Windows XP (now SP1). IE 6 seems to not load all the images correctly and spends ages trying to download them. If I then go to another site or open a new IE window, it has trouble displaying images from those sites too and basically just displays the text alone!

This (so far) only seems to happen when I have accessed macosx.com, and closing and re-opening IE sorts things out... until I access this site. I tried reverting to the older macosx.com theme, but that didn't fix things. Does anyone know what could be causing this?

Thanks!

Try changing the theme, I belive there are about 5 other themes...

Including the orriginal... so- Try that, see what it does for you.

I get exactly the same, using IE 5ish on a PC (NT4.0 SP6) (the about box has broken as well). I thought that it was due to a proxy issue on site, but what you are describing matches my issues.

Wierd.

I have now tried Mozilla 1.0.1 a few times and have not had a problem so far. The complicating factor with IE6 is that this problem does not occur 100% of the time, though it occurs more frequently than not.

As I mentioned originally, I did try using the previous theme (though I have not tried all of the others too), and this did not fix it. I expect it is part of the newer content, rather than the appearance, which is the culprit. A friend has now told me he has similar problems when using IE 6 under Windows 98. This issue is very strange, especially as it represents incompatibilities with some of the most common internet browsers out there (IE 5 and 6 running under Windows), though that most certainly does not mean it is therefore macosx.com's fault!

Certain graphics seem to having a problem. When I right mouse click on them using IE5 on a PC then I get the following properties (see attachment).

The graphics that are having problems have a size of -1 bytes.

Interesting!

I tried the same thing using IE 6 on the Windows XP machine here and got the same sort of result. So that just leaves the question as to why certain images are upsetting the browser to the extent where it has to be closed and reopened!

I wonder if it has anything to do with the PHP graphic libs not producing great quality files. IE on a PC could be more sensitive than smarter Macs (clutching at straws a little here).

Not only have we got a new theme, but didn't the site move host recently?

I hate using PCs.

I have the same problem at school. Unfortunately, we are stuck with IE only at this M$-centric campus, so basically I have to wait until I visit my other fave sites before this one to view them correctly. It really sucks that this site makes Apple.com, appleturns.com, macminute.com, etc.. almost unusable on the Win2k machines here.

How wierd is that, I'm having the same issue. Thought I was going crazy with my WindowsXP box with IE6 sp1. It seems that after surfing this site all the other sites wont' display images, which in fact makes no sense at all. Damn Windows. Opera/Mozilla seem to work fine. If i exit out of IE and restart it, everything is dandy again. Man....How wierd.
