IEEE-1284 to USB

I am searching for a IEEE-1284 to USB adapter and have found them for "PC" but not for mac. It may be a silly question, but can a so called "PC" cable be used on a mac? I have an HP 2100M printer that I want to hook up but need this cable to accomplish the task. I don't want to buy the cable (about $35-50) and have it not work.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Also, any info from people who have done the same thing as I am attempting.

I have the 2100, and the first thing I did was to put the JetDirect card in (the printer). The JetDirect allows any of the machines on my network to print to the printer via ethernet; no odd cables/drivers needed - it just works. The only downside is that the card goes for about $110, but it will definitely work, which is more than one can say about the "special" cable.

Thanks for replying!...

I have an Asante wireless router which I can't use yet because I didn't realize it didn't come with any transmitters, just the part that receives all the ethernet connections. So I am going to hook it up via land lines (bought a 50' ethernet cable instead of an airport for my extra, and much older, iMac.)

So I need to get that one up and running first. Where can I get that $100 card you describe and where does it fit in the printer? If you have a part number for that card I can look it up for myself, no problem. There doesn't seem to be a whole lot of room in there for much else...

Thanks!
