I'm buying a powerbook in September. But I have a question.

I apologize if this has been asked before. I’m going to purchase a power book this fall and I know that Apple isn’t going to make a G5 power book anytime soon. My question is how long do you think it’s going to take for the G4 powerbook to become obsolete? Like if the next version of OS X is strictly 64 bit then what am I supposed to do?

This question has really been beaten to death many times, on these forums and on the net in general.

So, to sum up :). No one knows when the G5 powerbooks are going to be released. Rumours have it that the next updates are G5s, but they aren't called rumors for nothing. Tiger will be with us for a very long time. Longer than Panther. Therefore there is no rush to go 64 bit. After all, 64 bit doesn't really bring anything to consumer machines at _present_.

So don't worry. Go get your Powerbook.

Thanks. I'm just worried that Apple is going to stop making 32 bit programs and of course go fully 64 bit with OS X. But on the bright side I can always drop Gentoo on my powerbook if that happens and just use that.

Also I can't use the search feature since I'm stationed here in Kuwait and had to use...um...a different proxy server. :D
