i have been experiencing so many issues over the last few months that i'm at a loss as to what might actually be going on, so i'm just going to list the issues i've experienced in no particular order. if anyone else has experienced something similiar, please let me know. here they are:
i'm sure i'm forgetting some of of the issues i'm having and they will spring up and i'll say: crap! how'd i forget to mention that one? so if they do come up i'll come back and add a reply.
some background: i was experiencing some errors a couple months ago, and disk utility reported errors with my drive that it could not repair. i took it into apple and they could not do anything. so i backed up all my data and reformatted the hard drive and then copies all my data back.
things seemed good for a while. although when i copied all my backed up files back to my drive, i found (to my rather immense annoyance) that though a folder had been copied to the cd (dvd copying wasn't working then either), certain files within that folder would be missing. almost as though when i backed it up, for some reason it only copied some of the files in the folder but not all of them. i suppose this could have been because of certain corrupted data segments on the drive, but i am surprised it didn't give me any errors during the copy (and i could swear that i had used/accessed some of these files days before i backed them up with no issues).
i really am at a loss as too what the issue is. i'm tempted to think that it is my harddrive failing, but disk utility says that it is good and has no problems, unlike before when i was having problems and reformatted it.
anyway, any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks for everybody's help in advance!

- read/write I/O errors when downloading files or sometimes playing video files
- getting a message that my startup disk is full even though the finder says i have over a gig unused
- mail program and safari suddenly stopped working -- they would launch, but as soon i tried to do anything they would quit and i would get an "unexpectedly quit" message
- for no reason at all mail started working again although safari is still useless (i am attempting to reinstall now...we'll see...)
- it seems to take forever for my computer to boot up... much longer than it ever did before
- certain applications take an unusually long time to launch -- it can take MS Word sometimes longer than five minutes before it is even available
- i'm unable to run disk verification or repair (from disk utility) unless i actually boot from my system disk to run them, and then they report that there are no issues
- i can't burn anything to dvd -- music, data, a movie...anything... it will run the copy for sometimes several days, but always ends up with an error.
- can't backup my itunes library. i forget the error, but i tried several times and each time it quit with an error before finishing
