Computer* freezes after one of:
Hours of inactivity with only screen, but not computer, asleep.
Programs opening right after hard restart.
Specific program, likely with high memory requirements, starts.
It prevents me from opening new programs and restarting the computer, as well as stalls a program I'm on, particularly when I switch between them. This happens most often when I'm starting Thunderbird, browsing Firefox, or reading Acrobat Reader or Word documents. I checked and the problem is not unique to the aforementioned Mozilla programs. Furthermore, it started when I downloaded the StarCraft 2 beta, and downloading updates also causes the stalling half the time.
I had my hardware checked out by Eaton and Associates of San Francisco, suspecting a fan problem. There was no software problems, a lot of dust, and I had my fan replaced anyway. It's gotten a little better but the crashes still happen. I now suspect it may be the power supply that needs replacing.
Does anyone know what is wrong with my computer?
