iMac freezes on start up... fan kicks in

I have an iMac G5 OS 10. that froze up while surfing the net using Firefox. I shut it down and tried to reboot. It chimes and comes up with the gray screen with the Apple logo, but will not proceed beyond that. The fan kicks in and will not proceed. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Have you tried ruunning the Apple Hardware Test? One of the discs that came with the iMac G5 has it (I believe it's the first disc in the set).
