iMac G3 new hd problem

i just put in a maxtor 20gb hd into my imac g3 (rev a bondi blue). i went to install panther. it goes through the entire process, restarts and goes to install the same thing again, but it cant detect the hard drive. is it not compatible or something?

Did you partition your HD first? OSX has to be installed within the first 8GB on that iMac.

Might want to try a 7 GB partition, just to have some headroom. Make sure you have all applicable firmware updates installed:

verify the hard drive is install correctly, if all else fails.
