Imac G3 on OS X
Hi. I am running an intel mac, but but old machine is still in use. its an Imac g3, serial number SG9490K7HTE. recently, it has had some issues. its running os 9.2. we have taken it out to max ram, but the netscape icon, alis, and application program has dissappeared. the rest of it is still there thou. we have been considering upgrading the os, as it seemed still a sound hardware system. what experience are users having? what OS X package are running well on these machines, and what about the "classic" 9.2 software etc?? all help and pinots of views, and tip greatfully appreciated.

We don't need the serial number, but some info about which model generation it is would be nice. Original bondi blue/green 233 MHz? or rather a later 600 MHz version? Although I must say, I'd recommend Panther for all of them.

On the other hand, if the OS 9 software does all you really need, that might just be the better option.

If the icons just disappeaared fromt he desktop you can reabuild the desktop on start-up.

Rebuild Desktop (command(Apple Key)+option after startup chime)

- Hold this key combo while the machine starts until the desktop loads and a dialog box is displayed asking if you wish to rebuild the desktop for disk x.

- Click "yes."

- The question will be repeated for each disk.

This may help.

yes, true, I agree about rebuilding desktop, but the actual netscape application has gone.
as far as speed, to be honest, we dont know. it has firewire ports, it can write to cd's. and 512 meg ram max. 333? 350? 400?
