iMac G3's post-MWNY?

Barking at the moon.
I've pretty much settled on a graphite iMac 600. I can get it from Apple with my student discount for like $950, but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and get it now or after MWNY?

I would imagine that the price of it would go down after MWNY, because the prices of the current FP iMac models will go down (assuming a new line is introduced). But then I got thinking... how much longer is Apple going to be selling the old-school iMacs?

Do you think I should take the chance and see if they lower the price or just settle and get one while I still can?

I know I can get them from places like www.smalldog.com , but am I still able to get AppleCare if I go through them?

So many questions! So confusing!

Anyhoo, thanks in advance for your speculations. ;)

With the new eMacs, I think it's only a matter of time before the old iMacs are discontinued.

I question why you would get an older iMac when you could get the newer eMac for only $100 more. Also, eMacs are going to start shipping with SuperDrives, making them perhaps the cheapest DVD authoring system around. It's also a far superior system to the older iMacs and even the new iMacs in a lot of respects.

I doubt the older iMacs will get a price drop. It seems more likely that they'll be discontinued. Not necessarily at MWNY though.

If you were to purchase an iMac from an Apple reseller like smalldog.com after they were discontinued you would still be entitled to Apple Care.

I purchased a Cube after they were discontinued under full warranty with an option to purchase the extended 3 year Apple Care.

You might also want to shop around. Even with a student discount, sometimes you can get better deals at Authorized Apple Resellers.

That's where I've purchased my two Macs and they are given them same support as if I were to have purchased them from Apple directly.

Anyway, think about getting an eMac. Buying an older iMac seems like throwing money away at an already phased out product when a far superior one exists for only $100 more.

I thought it had to be to but it's not. The top of the line iMac is only $100 less than the eMac.

It makes no sense at all to get an older iMac anymore unless you were to get the bottom line one. They'll likely be discontinued soon.

Yeah I really don't even know anymore .. I'm just going to wait until after MWNY and see what the deals are.

Computer shopping is so confusing! ;)

I got my Mac from ClubMac, and even tho I didn't get AppleCare (1+ year and smooth sailing so far), it was pushed onto me to buy it. As long as you buy it within 1 year of buying your Mac there's no problem. They don't seem to care where you buy it from as long as you get a reciept.

You can even walk into an Apple Store and pick up the Apple Care package right off the shelf. :-)
