Hello smart Apple peoples,
I have gotten an iMac G4 from PowerMax.com, and a couple hours into use, it froze. The mouse and keyboard were absolutely disabled, and I couldn't shut it down by the hotkeys or pushing the button. The only way to shut it down is to hold the power button down for a couple of seconds. Anyways, it started freezing after opening an application and/or changing a setting. It lasts maybe 20-30 seconds before it freezes, and nothing can be done. We took it to Apple and they reinstalled the OS (which by the way is 10.4) It worked great until updating it from 10.4.6 I think to 10.4.11, then it started the same problem. Then we took it to an Apple authorized dealer and they upgraded the memory from 256 MB to 1 GB. (SDRAM) Also, they re-greased the heat-sink (the heat-sink is greased so heat can get out faster, but after 3+ years it hardens and traps heat) Anyways, is it a component in the COMPUTER or is it something with the operating system? (Another btw, it cannot be upgraded to 10.5 Leopard because its processor isn't strong enough.) The specs are: 1 GB SDRAM, 800 MHZ PowerPC G4 processor, and 55 GB hard drive. Please help me and reply soon! - ChaddM
(ANOTHER btw, it did not come with the OS disk, which I think is plainly stupid. It's probably needed isn't it? If so, then I am probably screwed, because they don't sell the Mac OS X 10.4 disk anymore, and Leopard can't run either...) If it's not needed, please help! Thanks!!! Help is greatly appreciated. =)
