iMac G4 Monitor won't "wake up"

I recently bought a used iMac G4. The first time I used it I watched an Andy Griffith DVD and then without turning it off, or removing the DVD, I went to bed. When I woke up this morning, my monitor is black, but the computer is on.

I have turned the computer off and on, removed the DVD, turned the computer back off and on, checked the power cords and now I'm just stuck.

Any help? Any suggestions?

I also have a PowerBookG4 and a firewire cord that I could connect the two if I needed to, but we are getting into dangerous territory since I only know enough to get myself in trouble (obviously).

Could I get some help on this?
