imac g5 not reading music cd

Hi all
Please can you help. My imac is reading games software ie sims 2. (My children) but not reading music cd's. They go in, the computer trys to read or makes a double sound and after a while spits the cd out.
Please Help

Can anyone help with any ideas. My daughters are giving me grief trying to load cd,s onto their ipods.
