iMac G5 OS X 10.4.11 BOOT PROBLEM

My mac shut itself off. It would not reboot. I tried everything including an SMU Reset, tried plugging it into the wall without anything else, tried different outlets, nothing. I took it in to Apple Computer Lab, they plugged it in and it worked. They tried different plugs and it worked. Dragged it home, nothing. Took it to my neighbors, worked fine. Brought it back and tried upstairs, nothing. Took it to my daughter's house, it worked. Called the electric company to verify I was getting full power to the house -- yes. So it wasn't the outlet, it wasn't the Mac. I turned off the circuit breakers, waited 3 minutes and turned back on, nothing. I just walked by and tried it one more time, it booted. Now I'm afraid to shut the thing off. Just before this I had letters missing in the date and time menu, so I deleted the /Users/your_name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and
/Users/your_name/Library/Preferences/com.apple.LaunchServices.plist
rebooted, and that worked as it always does. Is that a symptom?

I'm afraid if I shut the Mac off it won't come back on again. Have you ever encountered this? Could it be something on my Mac that is causing boot problems? I can restart, it's booting after a shut down that is the problem.

Its more than likely a weak power supply. Seen many of those models with the same symptoms. Those things are known for blown caps also so you might want to inspect the caps next time you have the back off as well.

Other than that are the outlets grounded in your house?
