I've read some of the postings to this board reggarding similar topics, and I think I already know the answer but, seeing as my problem seems to be slightly different, I thought I'd ask anew.
I have a 400MHz iMac Graphite DVSE. The hard drive has started to play up recently, but has not died entirely. It doesn't stay active long enough for me to do anything useful however (backing up files for example).
Basically it keeps shutting down. Well, kind of anyway. It isn't 'going to sleep' but it is as if the power to the drive has been cut, it spins down under its own momentum.
Someone suggested the clock battery, but I can't see that this would interfere with the HD. So, suggestions anyone? I'm competent enough to pull the drive out (which I've done, nothing obviously wrong) so if I can fix it myself I'd like to.
BTW, only reply please if you're pretty certain you know the answer to this problem. I know what the general gist of most replies is likely to be, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who really know their Hardware or has had this exact problem.
Cheers.
