Hi there,

My iMac has stopped recognizing blank CDs !
It spits them out. The CD drive will read formatted CDs.

The CDs are fine, they are accepted by other computers.
Anyone know what might be going on with my computer ?

Is there something I can do that might fix the situation ?

thanks :)

Which brand are the cds? Did you try on other macs, or were the other computers you tried pcs?

stopped assumes it was working before. You probably changed the brand, right? If so, simply go back to your previous brand.

I tried different brands.. it's not the brand of cd.

They're accepted by both macs and PCs.

Any other ideas ?

Is there a way to reset the firmware or would zapping the pRam help ?

I guess I should try cleaning the drive.
Could someone recommend a good not-too-expensive cd-drive cleaning kit ?

ok, let's try the standard process:
1. repair permissions (eventhough I doubt it has anything to do with your problem)
2. reset PRAM (press the Command, Option, P, and R keys at startup)
3. setup a new user account and test on that one.

Good luck
