imac power issues

I have an imac slot loading that sometimes has trouble starting up. Pressing the power button the light flashes on then cuts out, if i wait for a few minutes it gets a bit further through the boot up and so on.
Last time i think the cleaner knocked out the power supply. Why does this imac need to be plugged in for a while before it can boot up, and is there a problem with it?

If you wait for a few minutes to do what? And what cleaner, your cleaning person or a cleansing agent for the computer? You should probably have someone look at your computer.

ok sorry i should be more verbose.

I wait a few minutes to press the power button again.

And the "cleaner", is the janitor. (sorry cultural difference)

First, make sure that power cord is plugged in securely.

Now when you say a few minutes.... is this different from before? Did you install anything new recently? What OS are you working in?

OS 9.2.2

no changes, no upgrades, no nothing
The only thing is that it may have not had power running to it overnight.

Tell management to fire the janitor. :)

Seriously, though, do you have anything attached to your computer? I have a 250 MB bus-powered Zip drive with my iMac, and until recently I was having startup issues of my own: the computer would boot to a point, then freeze. Unplugging the Zip drive seems to have fixed this, at least for now.

By the way, I looked for North Bay, CA, and I found 2 matches on Mapquest: 1 near Humboldt county, and 1 near L.A. Where are you? And what major kinds of cultural differences can there be between central CA (me) and north or south CA? I know there are some, but where do you get "cleaner?"

I have a slot loading iMac DV SE 400 and it has already had the Logic board replaced 2 times. I updated the firmweare to 4.1.9 and uthe screen problem has stopped (it would be all dark and unreadable) but now it doesn't seem to start up? the guy said new logic boards would just keep dying? Does anyomne know about this. It may be the same problem.

If you look at my user name below it says iAussie. Me being from Australia and all. There a person who cleans is a cleaner. So does a janitor do janiting or do they just do janit, and if so is she hot?

You still didn't answer the first question in the third paragraph of my last post. And to be perfectly PC, we call them custodians. And yes, they do custode.

ok North Bay. Near San Francisco is a bloody great big Bay called San Francisco Bay. I live north of this Bay, therefore in the North Bay area.
I know there are many bays in CA that have northern regions, but this is the northern region of the bay I live near and around here its called North Bay.

Cheers Arden :)
