iMac slot loading CD-Boot problem

Howdy,

I am trying to get this 350mhz slotloading iMac to work. The hard drive it came in with must be shot or doesn't have an OS on it. The machine boots fine off of another hard drive with os 9 already installed on it. However, I cannot boot from CD BUT it does read the CD once an OS is loaded. I have tried holding option, all i get is the OS on the hard disk, holding C, and setting the CD as the startup disk. Like I said, the iMac can read it fine once into OS 9, it just wont boot. The same CD works in an identical iMac.

Any ideas?
Thanks.

The CD you're trying to boot from probably doesn't support that machine. If it came from Apple with a machine, it's machine specific.

Its a standard Mac OS 9.04 Install CD, has worked in every Mac I have put it in, including bondi blue iMacs, B & W G3's, beige G3's etc..

Like I said, it works in another slot loading iMac of the same family

Thats what I was assuming when it wasn't booting from it, but then when I loaded the OS and it read the CD no problem I was confused. I guess it could still be a bad CD-ROM drive but its bad in a weird way.
