First of all sorry for my bad english.
I'm Brazilian and I'll try to write in english:)
I've been a problem with my mac,

Some days ago, my programs have been closed all time., the PHotoshop, Ilustrator, After Efects, Indesign...

And I was trying to burn my photos on DVD, it burned, but many photos burned conrrumped.

But in the computer the image is perfect, and in the CD or DVD is burned conrrunped. I opened it to see and it was like 1/2 perfect and 1/2 with problem, like invert image, or black, or with difents colors.

I tried it many times, and not all images had the same problem.

I tried to open my photos in other computer with my camera and was perfect. Only in my computer when I download the imagens some of that be conrrumped.

A friend of my said me to try to get off the memory, because the problem can be in the memory.
So I get it off and I couldn't return to the desktop, it went to a black window, and told me to put the login and password. But I couldn't, it didn't work.
I could put the login but the password no.

I decided to format the mac.
And the problem continue, and I couldn't uptate the OSX 10.3 to 10.3.9
It sayd: I make sure if you have the permission on tmp/501/temporaryuptate/com.mac.......

I tried to uptate many times and nothing.

Know I formated it with zero all data, and I the problem with the photos continue and I didn't uptated the system.

First do a repair in Single User Mode: reboot and hold command (clover) key + s till you see black screen white text/type fsck -f/type reboot after process finishes.

Let me know if this helps.
 
I've formated the computer, know it is work "normaly", but I couldn't update the system and either import photos or burd CD without corrupt the photos
