iMovie Compression - Is it really that bad?

Imhaving terrible problems with imovie compression with still pictures.

Is the compression from iMovie to quicktime really that bad or am i missing something?

Ive messed with the export settings and its still really grainy and blocky.

Anyone have any bright ideas?

I scanned some photos and saved them as TIFF or PICT files (ican't remember which). When I imported them to iMovie, they looked terrible.

I used Grapic Converter and converted them to JPEGs. Then I imported them to iMovie and they looked good.

What format are the pictures you are importing saved in?

I'd guess that the higher the resolution, the better your pictures would look. If you import some puny 320x240 crapolicious image, it's not going to size well; however, if you start at something like 1280x960, you should have better luck.
