imovie jumble

i bought myself a new canon dv camera about 6 months ago, and have really got into the swing of things. imovie is simple and easy to use, and its great fun! my question is: is there something thats not as "amateur-ish" as imovie, and something not so expensive & advanced as something like Final Cut Pro...is there a happy medium for the budding film-maker on a tight budget?

What exactly are you looking for? If it's more transitions or effects I suggest you consider one of the many iMovie plugin packs from companies like Virtix and Slick, perhaps that will make it possible for you to do what you want with iMovie?

Personally iMovie does pretty much everything I need to make movies. It's a little short in the titling options department but besides that it does what I want.
