Importing Students and Classes

Hi,
We are a school and are trying to implement a Hand-In and Hand-Ot program for assignments.
I have 800 different groups that are new (not on the Mac OS X Sever)
I have added the 1300 students into the server using passenger, but I still need to match them up to different groups

I exported our roster into an excel spreadsheet and got the list down to student name and class:

Last Name, First Name, Group Name

ie Smith, Andrew, APBio
Smith, Andrew, Computer
Smythe, Zelda, APBio

Does anyone have a script or a suggestion on how I can import the groups with the correct students in each group?

I have tried the import feature in OS X and used Passenger
The final out put needs to look like:
group name:smitha, smithb, smithc
group name 2:smitha, symthq
with the naming being group name:short name, short name

Any suggestions or help?
