InDesign CS4 not responding

Mac OS X version 10.5.6
2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

I just purchased CS4 and ID is not responding. It will open a new document but then will not respond and I have to force quit.

Any ideas? I've been searching the web and I've read about others with similar problems but haven't found an answer yet!

Are the rest of CS4 apps working OK?
If you create a new user does it do the same thing
Have you tried trashing the Indesign prefs located in - /User/youruser/Library/Preferences/Adobe Indesign/
