Hi.
Just a few days back, I finished downloading GNUstep (over dialup!). Now the OS boots from the CD just fine! But i can't darn install it on my harddrive! Now thats just useless!
I tries that sudo thing on their website (gnustep.org) but that didnt help me. Anyone here care to lend a hand?

You might want to describe to us in detail what type of hardware you are using (CPU, motherboard, etc.). Personally, I have never heard of an "x96", but I could be wrong. Maybe a typo or an Intel chip that isn't normally used for the mass consumer?? (Think Motorola 68060 :D)

I think he means x86 you pedant :).

AFAIK, the GNUStep CD is a live CD. No idea how you'd install it, and have had no experience with it whatsoever. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hey...I was actually being serious. :( And there actually is a Moto 68060, which was superscalar in nature like the Pentium, as well as the 88000 which was a RISC chip that fell behind the development times due to Apple-IBM-Motorola working on the PowerPC.

I have some knowledge of Intel hardware, but who's to say there hasn't been that obscure CPU lurking about. Look at the CPUs that are embedded in the first gen Apple BaseStations. They were AMD chips, and none I had ever heard of (it's called an AMD ELAN embedded 486 chip). See here for more details:

As for the LIVE CD, it might have some way of installing the contents of the CD unto the HD. Now I need to know, because AFAIK GnuSTEP is just a combination of different GNU apps (WindowMaker for a WM, for example) for running on X, not necessarily an operating system. Unless of course you are talking of Simply GnuSTEP, which tried to do this using Linux as the underlying part of the whole OS. I downloaded it once, but was never successful in installing.

Besides, I don't believe that this is intended for everyday users, but developers since it's still in the early stages. Then again, I could be wrong, which isn't a surprise...

hahah! actually, yes, i DID mean x86 :) sorry for the confusion!
Yes, the CD IS a livecd, but go read this:

If you guys have any experience under the terminal, you'd be able to understand, and then make ME understand :p Read the INSTALL TO HARDDISH instruction.
P.S. nixgeek, HARDDISH was a typo :p lol, kidding !

Uhm... that looks kinda simple. Just boot load the terminal, type "sudo su" and hit enter. Then type "morphixinstaller". You might need to be in text mode for this to work. Hit ALT-F1 or CTRL-ALT-F1 to get into the terminal.

Looks to me like this CD is based on Morphix Linux, which is a Linux Live CD that is based off Knoppix..

yep! already tried that. Installs just fine, but when I restart, it shows a error that no boot exists!
