Installing UNIX apps

I'm about to install nmap om my X. The configure went fine but the make command doesn't seem to work. Im not so good on english so i don't now some replies . When i run the make command on the makefile that's in my home-folder it reply:
make: *** No rule to make target `Makefile.in', needed by `Makefile'. Stop.

It's probably simple but im not so good at english..

I just downloaded it and built it fine. From within the nmap install directory:

./configure
make

Any messages from configure? Did it create a Makefile?

I can send you a binary. It worked for me.

i thought you had to install gcc first to compile nmap , .... or does the developertools already install that for you ,... i did a gcc -v and got back some weird results so i didnt think that it installed gcc

you use cc, not gcc.
dev tools installs cc
