Intel iMac & Mac Mini?

This is probably a really silly idea, but is it possible to hook up a Mac Mini to an Intel iMac? Oh, and btw, i haven't got either one yet.

I'm asking this perhaps really silly question mainly because i'd like to install Windows XP. But i'd like not to have it anywhere near my new iMac when i get to grips with it.

I suppose i could use an external hard drive, but i'm worried that someone might find a way to mess with my iMac via Windows even though it might not be installed on the iMac's hard disk.

Or, are these worries unfounded?

P.S. I'm gonna be (hopefully soon) a Mac OS X switcher, err, from Mac OS 9.2.2

I suppose there will be a time further on down the road (hopefully a lot further on down the road) when i will miss using OS 9, but i can only envisage that it will be because i'm using the new Mac OS 10. whatever it will be, and not having a quick get out fix for when something goes wrong.
