Trackpad freezes intermittently, restart fixes this. Whilst frozen Trackpad is still shown in System Profile-Hardware-USB on the same bus as the Bluetooth USB Host Controller. If I connect a USB mouse, the Trackpad remains frozen, but the mouse works fine.

Additional Info.
If I boot from Diagnostic Disk (or Hardware Test Disk) the cursor (either Trackpad or USB mouse controlled) jumps around randomly - seemingly in a square patten - making it impossible to select options and run tests, it took forever to click on the restart button!!

This has been going on for months. I've run permissions, verify disk ram test, done an Archive & install and a clean install. I have also removed and refitted top case to inspected for physical damage. Also reseated ram - but it's still here!! ARGGGGH.

Powerbook6,8 - G4 12" 1.5GHz 1.25 GB ram
OSX 10.5.6

Thanks, Brettl-s

Hi
I have just had this on a MacBook Pro, the top case had to be replaced, hardware fault. Check in Console app for a USB error when this happens, I had exactly the same symptoms as you have. Maybe look for a cheap top case on eBay?

Thanks Ed, much appreciate your help. Can you tell me where I should look in Console, the system.log?? and maybe what to search for?

Many thanks, Brett

This is the error I saw in system log-

This mostly happened after wake from sleep, but occasionally during normal working operation.
