Internal Hardrive Not Recognized

I have a 13" inch black mac book. My original 120 gb hard drive got fried and I was terribly concerned. I swapped a 80 gb hardrive into my computer from a white mac book the same size and it worked perfectly. I recently purchased a 500 gb Seagate Momentus 7200.4 but the disk utility won't recognize the hardrive so I can't format it. I hear the drive running and I know the logic board is in perfect condition because it was fixed less than a year ago and because the a 80 gb hardrive works every time I put it in. The issue with the Momentus is that is bare. I don't have the original case that came on my 120 gb hard drive so the top of the drive is unprotected. The drive seems a bit looser than the drive with a top cover on it. Could this be why it is unrecognized? I'm just curious what could be going on. I know the new drive works I can hear it. As far as a bad connection, I'm not sure, why would the other hard drive work and not this one?

You really need to get the drive sleeve and hex screws to hold that drive in place. Even if it is not loose now the only thing holding it is the SATA connector and any movement of the machine the drive wil be bouncing around inside the machine.

Yeah it turns out a friend found my original case and screws so I'll try it tonight. I also realized that when I put in the uncovered hard drive once I flip the machine back over the hard drive drops down from it's original place. I've tried holding it in place but still no recognizance from the disk utility on CD start up.
