Internet Access - Netgear Router

Hi,

I have an iMac G3 slot-loading Mac with OS 9 & Panther installed. Preciously I had access to the internet via an external ADSL broadband modem. I have now aquired a Netgear broadband router/modem. I also have a PC which is connected to the router. The PC is connected wirelessly to the router, the Mac is wired via Ethernet. I have tried various ethenet cables to no avail. The PC has no problems connecting to the Router & Internet. Initially the Mac was able to gain intermitant access to the internet but now I cannot get it connected at all. In Network preferences it says that it is connected to the internet via Ethernet and seems to obtain the correct IP address etc, but when I go to Safari or Internet explorer it says that the specified server cannot be found. I have spoken to Netgear but alas they had no idea.
Within Network status the only connection visible and configured is the 'Built in Ethernet", nothing else is running or configured.

Am now pulling my hair out.

Any help gratefully recieved.

Thank you

I had similar problems with an Airport Extreme with one wired connection and one wireless connection. It was, I think, caused by a conflict over which unit was controlling the ethernet and distributing the addresses.

I think this should be the router only. Then you should see your ethernet connection linking to the router address and not the ISP address. The same with the wireless link on the other machine. Typically you should see addresses in your ethernet set up as 10.0.0.1 or 127.0.0.1 or 168.0.0.1 as these seem to be the popular choices.
