Internet connect problem

My parter and I have separate identities on our Mac (Panther system). When she tries to log on to the internet, the Connect button never works first time. She has to click it, then it thinks she's disconnecting, then she has to click again.

It's annonying. Any ideas?

It may just be as simple as a mis-configuration.

Try writing down all of the options for the working account and then go through the duff one and make sure there's no slip ups...

I have the same problem, and so do about 3 guys in our office. we all have ibook g3's (some are g4) and internet connection is just HORRENDOUS. Let me say that AGAIN. HORRENDOUS. Yes, i can connect sometimes, but ONLY if the ibook doesnt have its usual moods. and the best part is, when i disconnect, sometimes it flashes the "disconnecting" word forever, which WONT disappear unless i REBOOT. thats why i just run home and scramble to my desktop pc if i need to connect to the net. or, i use my treo 600 pda-phone. it may be slow, but heck, i can CONNECT.

I had all of this fun when I had dial-up.

I put it down to a noisy line, but it seems it's more likely that the modems in macs are little moody and as such are prone to the digital equivalent of hissy fits.

I've got a brilliant solution -- get broadband! :D

Worked for me!..

I have the very same problem with my panther DP 867 Powermac. It connects on average once every three attempts. Same thing, disconnecting message takes ages, claims that the other side is not responding. It isn't a noisy line. My brother uses his XP laptop without any problems when he comes over.

BT must have thought I was as mad as a bag of monkeys!

I was on their case three and four times a month... :(

It could be that the ISP is busy. I knaw that some of the ISPs in the UK (ahem, Freeserve) have very poor connections. May not have been BTs fault after all :D

Freeserve?

FREESERVE!

How dare you, sir!

We may have to take matters outside, you and I!

I would not sully nor soil my computer with such filth!.. :D
