Internet connection failure

In the midst of going from one log-in to another I lost the connection to the Internet.

After much checking of hardware etc (replaced RR cable modem, changed out ehternet cable, working with broadband ISP) I still cannot establish a connection.

In working my way through Network Diagnostics I get a message that "the computer does not seem to be to be connected to a DSL, cable modem, or Ethernet network."

Help?
