Please help!!! I am running OS X 10.3.9 on my powerbook and I use a canon pixma IP4000 printer with it and it runs perfectly. I have just persuaded my girlfriend to by a MAC Powerbook as apposed to a PC and she is running 10.4.3, this is where the problem begins....

The printer will not run with the OS Tiger 10.4. I have tried installing the driver that comes with the Printer and also tried installing the drivers that can be downloaded from Canon. No joy. Is there a trick that I am missing, the printer just does not come up in the printer utility after several attempts at installation. Please help!!My Girlfriend is starting to think I sold her a duff idea buying a mac!!!

You have printer sharing On and firewall Off? Tell us about your network connections. Are the first three parts of your IP addresses the same (like 192.168.1.x)?

There is an alternate driver in the newest Gimp-Print drivers (Apple included an older version in 10.3/10.4). It's now called Gutenprint.
Install Gutenprint 5.0.0-rc1 from here:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=1537

There are no CUPS drivers for Canon models bundled with OS X. CUPS drivers are required for network printing from OS X.

The only CUPS driver for your Canon is the one from www.printfab.net -- costs about US$60
