iPhone 3GS contacts syncing to Google and MacBook Addressbook

Good Evening Everyone,
Apple Newby here please be gentle.
I have had my iPhone 3GS for 12 months now F.Y.I. and am the proud owner of a MacBook with OS x 10.6 since last week.

My question is the following:

I am using MS Exchange to sync my iPhone with my Google account contacts, calendars and emails. No issues so far.
Now I have got the MacBook I want to use the Mail programme of course and for that I will need the Addressbook on the MacBook to be up to date and in sync with my google account.

My goal is to be able to edit my contacts on either Google, the iPhone or the MacBook but the changes to reflect proper on the other two media.

Oh and I don't want to have to sign up to MobileMe.

I keep ending up with two sets of contacts on the iPhone, why?
And even if I do manage to end up with one set of contacts telephonenumbers are missing or in the wrong order to what they are in Google or the MacBook, but if you throw the two sets together under all contacts everything seems to be mirroring Google and the MacBook.

What am I doing wrong?

I thank you for taking the time.

Regards DF

Right I have learned the following.

If I set the Mac address-book to sync with Google under Accounts those two talk to each other. So far so good. Starting with a clean iPhone as in clean of contacts I then used exchange to populate the iPhone with contacts but the result is that not all information per contact was making it across and I don't know why. So in exchange on the iPhone I switched syncing contacts with iPhone off again and the result once again was a clean Iphone. Now in iTunes I selected under info to sync iPhone with the Mac address book but unticked the option in that window to sync with Google.

Synced iPhone and am left with one set of contacts on the iPhone who are correct. I shall run with that for now and see if that helps.

Regards DF
