Well, we finally have a date. Wish it was slightly earlier to increase my chances of getting one prior to my vacation. :) Looks like I might have to camp out at the Apple Store.

Very cool. Can't wait to get one. Price is going to suck, but that is life.

Yes I saw these linked to on a blog somewhere (Mac rumors I think?). They were saying this is what the Mac ads should be -- promoting the user interface. I thought it was an interesting point, as apple has in the past avoided this approach to advertising.

when are they going to be available in Australia? They've mentioned canada and europe etc. but they never seem to make mension of us poor jealous fools here who can only watch you americans have all the fun :(

That's how I feel about iTunes in Europe: No movies, no TV shows, no downloadable music videos... nada. Only (obviously) music. Ok there are some podcasts, audiobooks and iPod games but who really uses those things, seriously?

Actually, I know quite a few people who use their iPods for music, podcasts and audiobooks. One of my friends even has two or three of those games. So that's not the issue. The issue is a disconnect between Apple's advertising (AppleTV and iPods with movies and TV series) and what's really available in the world outside the US. Yes, they have changed the advertising so they don't actually mention buying movies or TV series on iTunes outside the US, but that's not how the global stuff works. It's sad, but that's how it is. Until iTunes sells moving pictures internationally, the hardware is either used with material illegally downloaded "somewhere else" or with material you've (possibly illegally, depends on your nation's laws) transcoded yourself.

My guess it would be 2008, the release date for Asia. I know Australia is not Asia, but it is the closest to it geographically.

I use podcasts all the time! THat's mainly what I use my iPod for nowadays, especially with the podcast subscriptions. That way they're automatically downloaded for me. When I've listened to all of them, I just put on some music until a new podcast is available to listen to. :D
