iPhoto '08 not loading Video from my camera

I have a mini mac (10.4.11) running iPhoto '08 with Quicktime 7.6.4. I have a new Nikon Coolpix S8000. The photos are all loading fime but I can't load any video. I was able to get one short (14 sec) video to load but when played back it's all choppy. Any suggestions? Is there a way to transfer the videos directly to my desktop? Thanks
