Dear iPhoto 2 users,
I am trying to maintain my iPhoto library on two different machines -- a desktop (G4/450 AGP Sawtooth) and laptop (G4 12-inch). (One machine I use, the other my wife uses.) I've been using FoldersSynchronizer to perform a bidirectional sync of the iPhoto libraries on a weekly basis. During the week, each library may be potentially updated via an iPhoto import.
I've noticed that iPhoto 2 does not necessarily recognize a "new" photo that it has "received" through the synchronization process, even though the corresponding photo file HAS physically been copied. For example, suppose I use iPhoto 2 to import a photo IMG1.jpg onto my laptop today (12/8/2003). That photo would reside in the directory structure iPhoto Library/2003/12/08/IMG1.jpg. When synchronizing my laptop with my desktop, FoldersSync would copy this file into the corresponding directory structure on my desktop. However, my desktop's iPhoto would not automatically recognize the presence of this new photo (because it wasn't imported through my desktop's iPhoto!). In fact, in certain instances, my desktop's iPhoto may actually LOSE the ability to recognize certain photos that it once did (even though those photos are still physically present on the hard drive).
Any ideas on what's going on and how best to fix it? Is it too ambitious for me to maintain two synchronized iPhoto libraries in the above-described manner? For now I am restricting myself to a one-way sync. Thanks a million for sharing your experience and expertise.
