I am running a 12" ibook. When I open iphoto, none of my pictures are found. I can still find all of my pictures in finder. Can anyone help me fix this problem? I've let a few friends use my laptop so they might have done something to make this happen.

Hi jiijima,

First off, to stop your friends removing or deleting your photos, make a user under system with standard polices that way they cannot install or delete anything in your profile.

Anyway I take it you have run a search for the files? run another on your local drive with the *.jpg and *.raw...the * is a wild card .jpg is the extension. The search should find all files with the jpg / raw

Have you or your friends done anything to the photos/files etc. in the iPhoto Library in Finder? This could result in your photos not being seen. One should never manipulate those folders or what is in them. Only work in iPhoto itself.

Look in your home folder (little house icon at the left of your Finder window) for a folder named "iPhoto Library". If it's there and contains the following files then iPhoto should find your images OK:
iPhoto.db
Dir.data
AlbumData.xml
Thumb32.data
ThumbJPG.data
Albums (folder)
Thumb64.data
Library.iPhoto
Originals (folder)

If your "iPhoto Library" isn't there, drag a copy of it there. Launch iPhoto and it should now work.

BTW before you do anything you should copy your "iPhoto Library" to CD or DVD.

If iPhoto still can't find your photos then you may need to import them from scratch. This will be a real pain if you've modified the images and added bookmarks!

Satcure, all of the listed things are there. I can find all my pictures through the iphoto library in finder, but they do not show up when I launch iphoto.

Skybolt, is there a way to make the pictures visible again?
